The next project for NWTC was to build a Magento eCommerce website for their brand new Karcher Centre based in Leeds. This website was to target sales to the general public. Selling a range of products for home and garden to small business equipment.
As NWTC are a Karcher centre, the website had to have a look and feel of the Karcher black and yellow branding which meant we had to stick to Karcher’s own branding guidelines.
By using conditions such as, whether the product was for sale, for hire or priced on enquiry, we could display different information and style appropriately. Therefore creating a clear difference between product options when viewing each product type.
Products that are for sale list features and display contact information, whereas products for hire would display a rental price and a quote form. The quote form was to incorporate date selectors so that a reliable and exact quote could be supplied quickly.
Custom Category Navigation
Several categories had sub-categories that needed displaying, to allow browsers to navigate more easily to their desired product. To resolve this we created a visual representation for each category and coded them into responsive blocks across the top of each category, above the product listing.
Several elements and complete pages were designed and created to display the necessary information clearly, including attributes for different kinds of products.
Google Business & Adwords, Analytics & Webmasters
As this was a brand new website we used Google Adwords to give it a head start. PPC is a simple way to drive traffic to your website, primarily using Google Adwords. We work alongside NWTC to figure out which platform will give them the best return. PPC can be very easily tracked to monitor ROI and can compliment other marketing activity, seasonal trends and offline efforts almost instantly.
Multiple attributes were created, along with several options for each, which could then be assigned to products on creation. Therefore, allowing customers to filter their search by using them.
Product data migration
from prestashop database
We exported the previous product data from the PrestaShop website with access to the MySql database we wrote a complex MySQL script to join five database tables and extract all the product data required.
The PrestaShop fields we had access to were all the standard fields you’d expect such as name, description, price and weight but also looked to have custom fields such as application features and technical information (these are specific product fields).
After methodically working through all the fields available we wrote the script and exported everything into a user friendly CSV file to supply back to the customer.
With this exported CSV file it was a relatively quick job to build up a working Magento import file with all the standard and custom product fields, mapped correctly to all the Magento attributes.
Custom Static Pages
Static Pages were designed and custom coded to display a range of services and information.
Payment Gateway Integration
PayPal & WorldPay
In order to accept payments online, NWTC needed a Payment Gateway and a Merchant Bank Account. We configured the website and accounts to integrate into the chosen gateways – Paypal and WorldPay.
